“How Do You Mend a Broken Heart?”

Text Box:

July 6th-   Freedom Celebration        Holy Communion

           Reading-  Matthew 22:15-22

              Communion Meditation-  “Dual Citizenship”

Join us to celebrate freedom-  freedom of nation and freedom of soul.  Jesus reminds us that we are citizens of two kingdoms….the nation in which we live and the Kingdom of God.  Jesus talks about giving due tribute to Caesar and to God. What is it, though, we owe to our country and to our God?  Which citizenship stirs more passion in your heart and action in your lifestyle? To which kingdom is your highest loyalty? Or does it matter?

On this day we remember the sacrifice that has won and kept alive our freedom of country. We’ll also come to the Lord’s Table to remember the sacrifice that has won the freedom of our hearts.

July 13th-   Dedication of Ministry Staff for New Conference Year

    Reading-  Esther 4:9-17

Sermon-  “For Such a Time as This”

On this beginning of a new conference year, we’ll pause to consecrate our ministry staff and our work together as a congregation for the new year.

The sermon is about how God often appoints certain people to be together for God’s special purpose at God’s chosen time.  God placed Queen Esther in a particular place at a particular time so that a wonderful miracle could happen…the rest was up to Esther.  Do you think that happens in our lives?   Are there such things as God-incidences which occur during our day?  Do we sometimes find ourselves in a particular place at God’s appointed time, for God’s special task?  Can that happen in our individual lives?  In the life of our church family?   Does it follow, that the rest is up to us?

July 20th-

Reading-  Luke 5:1-11

Sermon-  “When the Fish Quit Biting, Do You Keep on Fishing?”

The four fishermen had tried all night and caught nothing.  They were ready to hang up their nets; but Jesus had other ideas.  When they begrudgingly tried one more time at Jesus’ request, they caught the biggest catch of their lives.  What about when we get tired of trying to make a difference, or trying to mend a relationship, but nothing happens?  When should we keep trying?  When should we quit?  Let’s see what we can learn from this story about trying one more time.

July 27th-     OUTDOOR SERVICE @ RIVERSIDE PARK

Rain or shine….join us at Riverside Park, 10:00 a.m., for our annual Outdoor Worship and Picnic.

We’ll gather at the band shell in a sanctuary of God’s creation to celebrate God as the great Creator.  Our songs and prayers will remind us of the goodness, the creativity and artistry of our God through all creation around us.

Even if it rains, come to the park.  We have the indoor shelter house reserved. So, in case of rain, we’ll worship in the shelter house.

   Reading-  Psalm 8

   Sermon-  “Star Struck”

We humans have difficulty seeing ourselves as we really are, as God sees us.  We have a tendency to perceive ourselves as way too big or way to small.  It was from watching the night sky that David gained a God-perspective.   As we sit in a sanctuary of God’s making, we’ll study Psalm 8 and be reminded of how small we are in comparison to God….but that in God’s eyes, we are children of the Star Thrower.
